weekend update

We are back online!

Our computer problem was thankfully a $30 power cord problem (generic cord on ebay), not a laptop-ending ordeal!

Andrew is doing better. We think he just has those moments where he cries for no reason whatsoever. He’s a very happy little guy when he’s a happy little guy. When he’s fussy, he’s fussy.

Lois’ brother (Uncle Joey) had Andrew on Saturday for a good chunk of the day.

The last time they had him for 5 hours, he slept for about 4.5 hours. This uncle/nephew bonding day went a little differently than the last one. When we picked up Andrew on Saturday night, Uncle Joey met us at the door.

“I don’t know how you do it. God Bless you guys!” (This is usually what we say to him after we’ve spent an afternoon with one of his four children!)

I guess our little angel had a few of his fussy moments.

Joe made me laugh when he said “He was screaming such bloody murder after I changed him, I stripped him down again to make sure I didn’t catch his boys in anything!”

Yesterday, I had him for 5 hours while Mommy Loey babysat K*.

It started off a little rough:

We got a late start because I wanted to let him finish his nap. When I picked him up from the swing, he stank, I mean REALLY stank.

I threw one of these down on the couch and went about the diaper change.

Let’s just say this was an 8 wipe diaper! That’s the most wipes I’ve used in one diaper change so far.

He pooped out of the sides of the diaper. It was so full, I couldn’t get it off of him without him sticking his feet in it 3-4 times per foot. And it was NASTY!

I thought diapers didn’t get bad until babies started eating jarred food. Oh no, this was awful.

I got it on my hands, my arms, the wipe dispenser, the munchkin pad and even the couch.

As got the fresh diaper on him, I ran to the kitchen to wash myself from the elbows down and warm up a bottle.

He started screaming for food, the faucet is on high for hot water, the fridge is wide open, I’m opening the dishwasher with my foot to get the cup for heating bottles and the phone is ringing.

I answered the phone thinking whomever was on the other end would help me laugh at all of this. Salina did laugh as I told her the whole disaster that was our kitchen and living room, all caused by a little baby who was still screaming for food, by the way.

After this entire chaotic scene, we went to the “Club” (must be said with some snooty air) to meet my mother for lunch. She showed him off even though he slept through it.
He slept through lunch.
He slept through the car ride to the mall.
He slept through suit shopping, 2 elevator rides and running into clothing stands at Lord & Taylor
He slept through the car ride to Suz and K*’s and even slept for a while in his car seat.

When we switched off the baby sitting and Mommy Loey got Andrew, he was awake and cranky. Good timing kid!

I don’t even think he knows that he got to spend the entire day with me!

so cool

Our laptop is on the fritz, so we’ve been sans internet for a few days.
Work has been crazy.

Andrew is still a little cranky most of the day. It’s a mix between the reflux and gas. We’re hoping the Zantac settles in soon. I would hate to have to switch to another formula. Maybe if the Zantac works for the reflux, we can go back to the Good Start formula.

I’m leaving everyone with this picture from the other day.

Mommy Loey is responsible for this outfit.

I’m not sure what is going through the poor boy’s head, but he doesn’t look happy.

He’s probably thinking “does this ridiculous floppy hat make my head look too round?!?!”

reflux redux

Thank you everyone for your input!

We’ve been doing the sitting upright thing after eating, we’ve tried gripe water and that’s helped with his gas fussiness (our pediatrician said she couldn’t recommend it, but Nurse Jess thought it was good!), Enfamil AR (Acid Reflux), breast milk with rice cereal, feeding him less food more often, etc.  I think I was worried about making a fuss to the pediatrician about it because I didn’t want to self diagnose him or medicate him if it wasn’t necessary.

Last night, I felt horrible for him. He was just screaming and you can almost hear the bubbling right before the spit up. It was a pretty fast and furious spit up and he was not a happy camper about it.

The pediatrician wrote us the prescription today for the Zantac. We’re going to do a trial run for 3-4 weeks to see if he feels better.

Of course, Lois just called me from CVS to find out what our prescription plan is because she forgot her wallet at home.

How am I supposed to know? I’m not the one that pays attention to any of that information?

The coolest thing happened last night. I met up with Lois on my way home from work and she had Andrew in the car. He was staring into space when I opened the door and poked my head into his infant seat to say hello! He gave me the biggest smile! It was so cool! I know he was just thinking – Hey Mommy! I missed you!!

how old is the boy, really?

Ok, here’s a stupid question:

How old is Andrew?
When do you count by weeks? When do you count by months?

When I look at how much time has passed, since he was born on Thursday, February 8th, he’s going to be 11 weeks old on this Thursday.

That means he will be 12 weeks old on Thursday, May 3rd.

But, if we count months, he will be 3 months old on May 8th, not May 3rd.

Remember this post from our first pregnancy? My MIL probably thinks he’s 4 months old on May 3rd because he’ll be “going into” his 4th month.

Why do I feel like this is pregnancy counting all over again?

This poor child. Who will teach this kid math?

He’s been cranky again lately.

It’s funny how fast things can change. He’s happy, cooing and smiling one second and crying, red-faced and shrill the next.

Poor Laura, everytime she held him yesterday, he went from happy baby to mad baby. (I’m sure it’s nothing personal towards his Aunt Laura!)

We actually are thinking it might be the reflux again. He was doing pretty well with the rice cereal, but the last few days, he has been so uncomfortable again.

And when Andrew is uncomfortable, everyone must know about it! LOL.

It might be time to ask the Dr. if he should be on Zantac. Poor little man. You can hear the noise coming from his throat after he eats.

Poor little guy!

I know we have to stop calling him this before he gets a complex. Remember how when we were pregnant, we referred to him as Chubby??
We joke that it’s pretty fitting. He’s our little meatball!

As I’ve said before, when we left the hospital, he was 6 lbs 5 oz, and he’s now about 13 lbs. And he’s only grown 2 inches!

Here’s a picture of our little meatball!

In other news, we are retiring the bassinet. The crib seems to be working out pretty well.

We’ve been determined all along to get him to put himself to sleep and it’s actually been working. Sometimes, he will talking to himself for up to an hour but will eventually get to sleep.

Unfortunately, we are a little reliant on the binky and some nights, it falls out of his mouth every 4 minutes. Over the baby monitor, it sounds something like this…

Suck, Suck, Suck (it sounds just like Maggie on The Simpsons)……..ph-too……..”ahh”….”ahhhhhhhhhh”…..a little more whining…

The mommies stir.

“I’ll go this time.”

“No, wait. He’s ok. Maybe he’ll fall back to sleep.”

WAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

“It’s just another binky crisis. Okay, I’ll go.”

While we are very proud of him for being able to fall asleep by himself, we need to now work on the hours of sleep. Maybe by playing around with his daytime sleep hours.

He won’t go down until 11 or midnight and is usually up at 4 am and 6 am.

Doesn’t he realize that 11 pm is way past my bedtime!

my hot ride

OKAY – It’s actually not so bad now that I got a muffler on the car.

The interior is apparently a really hot commodity – royal blue and black leather with baseball stitching! Very Pimpin’!

Introducing….my new (previously loved) ride…the Subaru WRX…SEXY REXY!!!

Kylie is here!

Congrats to Wendy & Karen. She is beautiful!

our boy is back

We had a night without the boy.

Last night, he stayed at Lois’ parents’ house.

Our night consisted of eating dinner at their house (not going out to eat), coming home at 9 pm, reviewing our taxes, paying bills, reviewing Lois’ unemployment stuff, taking Tylenol PM and going to bed with a kiss on the cheek.

We definitely missed him! It was a little quieter around without him!

Welcome back little buddy!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and loved ones of the victims at Virginia Tech. Also to the classmates who endured and witnessed such a horrible scene.

Now, being a parent, seeing something like this is even more traumatic and heart-wrenching. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this tragedy.
