open house #3

Thanks Kerr for the memory refresh!

There was a cartoon character named Shmoo.

We had another open house this weekend. At least some people showed up this time, but I’m not keeping my hopes up.

My mother has sold her condo and is closing in 2 weeks. This, of course, has heightened my anxiety to sell our place but I think I’m falling into acceptance that it will never sell for what we need to sell it at. I’m trying to not get frustrated or depressed about it, but everything seems to be coming back to money lately and we have a lot to figure out. More on this later, don’t want to dampen anyone’s spirits on a Monday morning.

As for the Shmoo, he’s been testing us more than usual lately. We’ve always been very lucky that he would eat anything and everything we gave him. Some people said “that will change!” and others said “you are lucky – hope he stays that way!”

Last Wednesday, our bliss came to a screeching halt when he decided to eat almost NOTHING we tried to feed him. What the hell?!?!!?

For two weeks, this kid LOVED yogurt. He even said “yo-gut” one day. As of Wednesday, he points to the yogurt, you open it, he won’t even try one bite. He turns his head away, whines, etc.

We thought it was because he wanted to do it himself. Nope. Allowing him to self-feed just means that the yogurt will end up on the wall.

His vast array of food items seems to be fruit only right now. He will eat pear, blueberries and cantaloupe. All fresh fruit, not jarred anything.

He will eat some cheerios, but just this weekend turned down peas, ham, beef, chicken, rice, noodles, oatmeal, jarred baby food fruit concoctions, etc.

It is so bizarre and we don’t want to rush to the doctor and announce that there is something wrong with him, but he’s also been so damn needy lately. And I think he’s got allergies or a sinus thing going on.

He will take bottles and he’s been sleeping okay, so we’re not thinking ear infection (aside from the fact he’s never had an ear infection!)

We’re just wondering when we start worrying. I think he is getting enough to eat and I don’t want to force him but sheesh. What happened to our great little eater?!?!

Thanks for enduring my long winded confusing whine. Just for sticking it out, I’ll reward you with some pictures of the boy.

Don’t worry Dollface, I’ll give you a ride!

I like to swing with my BFF Kaden. Where did Kaden go?!?

Photobucket

Check out my new shoes. Aunt Laura got them for me so I could look as cool as her. Mommy, don’t I need to wear work boots with shorts to be really as cool as Aunt Laura?!?!?! (tee hee)

Photobucket

I didn’t do it. I swear. Really.

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! And thanks for sending our your prayers to E. and S.! We can’t wait to see more pictures of A. from the comfort of his home!

Don’t worry. This is normal. Yes, normal!
As you said, he is all stuffed up, and think about how much you want to eat when you can’t smell anything. He will eat when he needs to and probably isn’t going through a growth spurt. He may or may not eat everything again soon. Elliott started out a great eater, but started getting picky around two. He’s getting better now, but don’t worry so much. Really, it’s ok. He’s ok and there’s no need to worry about his eating habits. Up until age three, a child won’t over or under eat according to their growth needs. He won’t starve himself as long as there is food around.

Cam would eat everything when he was little too. Then one day he started getting picky. Eventually he grew out of that and now he eats really well again. So I think it’s normal and there’s hope. As long as he is eating something, then I wouldn’t worry.
    Way cute pictures!!
    Good luck selling the condo.

Erik is doing the exact same thing with food right now, and he used to eat absolutely anything we gave him. Our doctor said it’s normal at this age, especially with meat because they don’t like the texture of it. Erik will eat meat one day, and then won’t eat any for three days, and so on. It can be the exact same thing and he’ll love it one day and won’t touch it the next. He does this with all foods now except fruit. He’ll still eat any type of fruit (just like Andrew.) He’ll usually eat veggies but he’s much pickier about veggies now too. The other day we gave him asparagus and he wouldn’t touch it and was almost gagging at it. He loved it last time we gave it to him. So I wouldn’t worry, I think this is completely normal.

P.S. Will Andrew eat eggs? Erik won’t, so we make him french toast sometimes just to get some egg (protein) into him when he’s really on a meat and yogurt strike (and he hasn’t wanted yogurt this past week either. I think he and Andrew are exchanging notes on how to drive us crazy!)

Sorry about the house. I hope your luck changes!!!

Adorable pictures of Andrew! I was waiting for more!!! :)

Don’t worry about the food issues. He could have a cold (Riley’s on yet another cold this season) and they don’t want to eat much when they’re stuffed up. Also, they do change in pickiness. They like to eat familiar things over and over and then change it up. They’re just silly that way. I’m sure he’ll be eating well in no time.

He has got to be the cutest baby, EVER. Really.

SERIOUSLY !! The bling under the shirt on that kid is a CRACK UP !

Spencer stopped eating too. I have 2 so I compare them to each other and freaked out. Cam grew and was a pound bigger.
No need to fret. They just do these things. Cam is now more picky and Spencer will try most things. It’s just phases, stages.
Have you tried cheese sandwiches ? I know that seems weird, but for some reason Spencer would eat those.
The kid isn’t wasting away so I doubt they would worry to hard about him.
Maybe feed him some of those pediasures to get the vitamins he needs in him.
    Good luck :)

I bet if you brought him to Utah, he’d eat whatever you fed him. It’s worth a try, right? So do it!! Get on a plane this afternoon, bring the family this time, and we’ll absolutely feed that kid until he falls asleep with his hands holding his belly.
    It’ll work. Pinky promise! :)

I think it’s the age. Mateo will only eat fruit right now too! I read in “Happiest Toddler on the Block” that they start to not eat as much at this age because they don’t need as many calories. They’re not growing as much now as they did in their first year. It worries me too, though.

Super cute pic’s. I love those boots in that picture!

Good luck with the condo…. and hopefully Andrew becomes less picky with the food soon too!

He’s so cute!! Our kids have changed so much as to what they will eat, how they sleep, etc. The only constant thing is all the change. What I hate is when people make it sound like one step back is going to affect your whole kid’s life. It won’t! I think you have to try to guide them, but be flexible. Generally there is a reason why they are doing what they are doing.

Sumo did the same thing about two weeks ago. Ouisie called, freaking out, and we finally deduced that it was a combination cold/allergies/cutting eye teeth. Kid was piiiiiiissed he didn’t feel well. He kept pitching his bottle on the floor and it was leaking onto the not even a year old carpet. Ouisie was not amused. :o )
Sending you guys “Sell That Condo” vibes! As much as you don’t want to lower your asking price, with what you’ll be saving would that offset any of the loss?

Wow!! Andrew is gorgeous! Good luck with his eating. We’ll keep our fingers crossed on the condo for you, too!!

Don’t start to worry. Save that up for more important stuff. Go look up Dr. Terry Brazelton’s minimum diet for a toddler. It sounds like the Schmoo is right on target. Cakie used to eat everything. Now I’m happy if he eats anything and I’ve stopped even being so picky about how healthy it is. I am confident that he will someday return to the omnivour he once was.
